Security Scalability

Security breaches and license abuse ordinarily occur in customer environments outside your control. The following features make it virtually impossible to compromise Orion license protection:

• Piracy: key theft / misuse: through server-resident transferable/replaceable keys – no client keys to hack.
• User access control: a system administrator can define rules to selectively enable or block specific machines or groups of machines at a controllable granularity level.
• Eavesdropping, server spoofing: built-in secure communication based on public-key encryption.
• Client spoofing: digital signatures, challenge-response
• Data privacy, denial-of-service attacks: standard  Internet firewalls, password protected directories, intrusion detection systems.
• Circumvention through process termination: persistence-based architecture does not require application and license server to be simultaneously running and exchanging heartbeats, or for a proxy application to be running for commuter licensing.
• Revocable licensing: a license lease interval can be imposed in order to force periodic license validation.

License Models

Orion supports several floating license models:

• Named-user: the license server ensures that only one instance of a named user is active on the local or global network. Users can be securely relocated, with no license oversubscription.
• Anonymous-user: the license server regulates the number of users that can concurrently reserve use of your licensed product.
• Complex licensing: composite, nested and recursive licensing for sophisticated licensing requirements

All models allow automatic persistent node-locking for product activation and commuter licensing, based on a fuzzy machine fingerprint.

Vendor License Control Parameters

You can restrict, on a per-product basis:

• The product options / features available to any end-user.
• The overall expiration date of the license.
• The overall metered usage limit.
• Leased licensing for revocable licenses.
• The limit on the total concurrent floating users.

End-customer License Control Parameters

Your end-customer’s administrator can assign and manage the above parameters at a group level.

Orion offers broad platform support:

• C/C++ client libraries for 32- and 64-bit Windows, Linux, Solaris Intel and Solaris SPARC, and for Mac OS X universal binaries.
• Multi-platform Java client library
• ActiveX DLL client for C#, .Net and VB / VB.Net
• Option to custom-port the client to additional platforms and languages.
• Open HTTP-based communication protocol.
• The server runs on any Java-enabled platform.
• The server is packaged to be standalone and includes a web application server and relational database.
